Texas License to Carry

The New License to Carry Course (formerly known as the Concealed Handgun Licensing Course) has a duration of 4 to 6 hours and includes comprehensive training in:

• Basic firearms handling

• Basic marksmanship

• Safe storage of firearms

• Legal implications of the use of force and deadly force

• Law enforcement interactions

• Non-violent dispute resolution

The course culminates with a written test and a handgun proficiency demonstration.

Important Notes:

• Attire: Wear long pants with pockets, closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops or sandals), and a crew neck or button-up shirt (no low-cut V-necks). A cap or hat with a brim is recommended. Bring water to stay hydrated during range time.

• Equipment: You may bring your own handgun, holster, and mag pouch. Allowed calibers include .380, .38SPL, 9MM, .357SIG, .40S&W, and .45ACP. Revolver shooters should bring a minimum of four speed loaders, moon clips, or speed strips.

Prerequisites:

Participants must have a basic understanding of pistol shooting. This course does not teach basic shooting skills or firearm handling. If you are not proficient or are a beginner, I recommend taking the Basic Handgun Class or Private Instruction before enrolling in this course.
